Verify Itron Mobile License Level

Sometimes it is necessary to verify the Itron Mobile license level assigned to a customer. Possible use cases include verification of FCS connection to Itron Mobile and/or an upgrade or downgrade in a customer’s licensing level.

Procedure to verify license level:

  • Login to workstation/server hosting FCS.
  • Open Windows Explorer (a.k.a. File Explorer in some Windows versions) and navigate to the Itron share. Typically this is located at C:\Itron\FCS. However, it may have a different location depending on options selected at installation.
  • Navigate to the MobileServiceLogs\<computer name> directory. (replace <computer name> with name of the computer running FCS)
  • Open the most recent log file. For example, if the date is 02.09.2023, open the 2020-02-09.log file.
  • Search the log for the text string “Obtained License Information”. This string will be followed by the service level as it is set in Itron’s Azure platform. Possible levels are:
    • Walk-by
    • Drive-by
    • Drive-by plus
    • Optical and Unattended Reader

If the level reported here does not match the expected license level, restart the Itron FCS Mobile Service and check the log again. If the license still appears to be incorrect, contact Itron Support Services and open a case.
